This guide explains how to upload a file or multiple files in an Assignment activity.

The Assignment activity may be used for multiple purposes in a course such as :

  1. Long-form Assignment submissions

  2. Online-text Assignment submissions

  3. Final Exam submissions

Regardless of the purpose, all Assignment activities can be identified by this icon:

All you need for this guide is your Student ID and your password that has been provided to you by the university.

Step 1

Log in to your Moodle Account using your Student ID and Password given by the university, if you have difficulties logging into Moodle click on the following guide How to Login to Moodle


Step 2

Click on the course you need to submit a file to in the Assignment activity. In the course locate the specific activity and click it.


Step 3

You will now be presented with the Submission status table, which will indicate the activity’s due date and time remaining (if applied by your lecturer).

To upload your file(s) click the “Add Submission” button at the bottom of the page pointed by an arrow in the above image. This will take you to the area to upload your file(s).


Step 4

This is the area where you will need to upload your file(s).

The maximum number of files you can upload and the maximum size of each file are indicated on the upper-right of the upload area, as shown in the image above.

There are TWO ways of uploading your files, you can either:

  1. Drag and drop the files in the upload area, i.e. on the blue arrow.

    OR

  2. Click the “Add” button on the upper-left side of the upload area.


Step 5

In the dialogue box that opens as shown above click on Upload a file on the upper-left.

Click on the “Choose File” button that is pointed by an arrow and allows you to browse and select the file(s) you wish to submit.

When you are done click on the “Upload this file” button at the end of the dialogue box which is indicated by an arrow.

Repeat this process if you have multiple files to upload.


Step 6

Once you have uploaded your file(s) you will see them in the upload area. Click on the “Save changes” button that is located on the bottom of the page pointed by the arrow.


Step 7

You will notice your Submission status will have changed to Draft (not submitted).

At this point you can still upload or remove your files.

To formally submit your answers for grading click the “Submit assignment” button at the bottom of the page. Your submission status will be changed to Submitted for grading. You will not be able to make any changes to your answers or upload any new files at this point.

Your lecturer has been advised only to grade papers that have been Submitted for grading.
