Problem

Administrators from the collaboration of UNIC with HOU (Hellenic Open University) requested a solution to their problem with Thesis propositions for their students. They wanted a way for the students to submit their proposals by answering certain questions. The course leader would then revise their submission and approve it or not.

Solution

The solution we came up with was to develop a plugin for Moodle on which we have already the students along with who would be the teachers for that specific course (The course is called "Διπλωματική Εργασία" most of the times).

At first the administrator needs to create the activity into the course. Simply by selecting add an activity or resource you can find it with the name 'thesis proposition'. The plugin consists of several forms and different views for each role.

Figure 1: thesis proposition can be found under activities

The roles that have different views and actions are:

  1. Teacher

This role has the ability to view all submissions from users and either approve or not approve. In case the submission is not approved the student can edit and resubmit. Teacher can assign lecturers for thesis supervising. Also he/she can enable or not the ability to the student to submit his/hers second submission

Figure 2: View of teacher who manages the course

  2.  Non-edit teacher

Non-edit teacher can only see which students he/she  will supervise along with who will be the second supervisor.

Figure 3: View of Non-edit teacher who is enrolled into the course

  3.  Student

When student clicks on the activity questions appear in regards to his/her thesis along with who wants to be his/her supervisor.

After submission a second view appears displaying.

In case a user logs in with any other role other than the 3 above he/she will not be able to see anything. The system is strictly available for 3 roles only.
