How to take an exam using LockDown Browser (Students)

Installation

The installation procedure only needs to be done once.

Find the exam quiz you will attempt within your course on Moodle and click on it.

Click on "Download LockDown Browser".

Click on "Download", then locate the downloaded file in your Downloads folder and start the installation.

Attempt the Exam (Pre-Checks)

Click on "Launch LockDown Browser", and then click on "Open LockDown Browser" from the pop-up message.

You will be prompted to close some applications; this is required by Respondus in order to continue.

Agree to the Terms of Use.

Complete the Webcam Check. You will be asked to confirm that you can see your image in the window and then record a 5-second video.

Ensure that you are able to play the recording correctly and hear the sound.

Please carefully read the additional instructions, guidelines, and tips.

 

Follow the instructions to capture a clear photo of your face. Ensure proper positioning so that your face occupies most of the frame. Retry if the image appears blurry or unclear.

Please take a photo of your student ID card.

Ensure that you are clearly visible to the camera.

Click on "Begin Exam" to complete the pre-checks and start your attempt.

During the Exam

If permitted by your lecturer/instructor, you will have access to a calculator.

You can find the calculator icon on the toolbar at the top of the exam page.

During your exam, your face will be recorded, but you won’t be able to see yourself anywhere on your screen. An indication that a recording is in progress will be visible in the top right corner.

If you move and are not visible to the camera, the following notification will appear during your exam:

The message will disappear once your face is clearly visible. Please ensure you adjust your camera accordingly.

Finishing the Attempt

When you answer the questions on the quiz, click on "Submit all and finish". You will be prompted to confirm this action. Click on "Submit all and finish" again to complete the process.

After viewing the summary of your previous attempts, click on "Exit Browser" or the red 'x' button at the upper right corner of your screen.
