Creating Groups

The guide details the steps of how to separate students in a course into Groups for a group activity in the course.

  1. Click on Participants on the top of your course.

 

2. In the Participants page click on the drop down menu and select the option Groups

 

You might see some empty groups on the left list. You can delete these groups, if empty. If the groups list is empty then there aren’t any groups in the course.

3. To create and separate students into groups click on Auto-create groups

 

4. Here make any changes you’ll like to the groups options.

 

Naming scheme: The name of the group (@=indicated letter ie Group A, Group B, #= indicates number ie Group 1, Group 2).

Auto create based on:

Numbers of groups (ie 3 groups, 3 groups, no matter how many students enter in each group)

Members per group (ie 4 students each group, 3 students each group)

Group/member count: the number of groups or students per group.

Allocate members: Randomly placing students in a group or Alphabetically according the provided options.

 

 

5. After selecting all the options, click Preview to see if everything is as needed. If not make the necessary adjustments click Submit.

6. When the groups are created you will see the name of the groups on the left. To see all the students in the groups click on Overview tab.

You will need to post this table in a forum or label of the groups for students to see their group members. There’s no other way for students to know their groups members.
